Winter Weather Advisory

In my last post I shared a photo of someone standing amidst the snowbanks near my home. Today we are told a storm system is moving through which should produce 3-5 inches of new snow. Pardon me if I'm not jumping up and down for joy! I was wishing I had taken pictures of my yard yesterday as we were blessed with sunshine, but I guess now I'll just wait as the snow is about to get deeper! The photo at the top of the page was taken a few blocks from my home; someone has a wonderful sense of humor and it makes me smile every time I drive past!

I had hoped to go down the hill and practice on the pipe organ and perhaps visit with David, my mentor this afternoon, but I'll not brave it now. I'll practice here at my church...not that that is a bad thing, I'm just in need of a little constructive criticism. I played for hymn singing last night at the evening service...I don't always as sometimes we don't make it back for evening service and now that Tim is here, he has asked to play sometimes and I gladly step aside when he wants to play. Anyway, I played last night and messed up pretty royally. I don't sight read well and the hymns are never chosen in advance at our church. In the mornings I have the Sunday School hour to practice a little so it's not so bad, but in the evenings it's "turn to number" such and such and I have a couple seconds to find the number, check the key signature, check my registration and check my hand position before we start. Somehow last night I missed a flat in the first line of the second hymn and I couldn't get back to the right key for several beats. It was bad, but I'm trying to not fret...not sure that I'm doing a very good job. I keep telling myself the more I do the better I'll get, but I'm not sure that's the case anymore. I'm becoming discouraged.

Yesterday morning at church one of the ladies bought the last four thank-you cards in my box ( $12.00 more dollars for the organ debt) so I spent yesterday afternoon making more to replace them. I made 6 thank-you cards, 2 all occasion and 2 birthday. My studio is a huge mess this morning and I have to make some time before lunch to straighten it.  Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to make any to replace the ones sold at the store, so I'll have to make time for that some evening this week.

This coming Friday my son and his girlfriend and her dog are planning a visit. I'm thrilled to see my son and I hope it goes well. I'll have to spend some time on Thursday doing a little cleaning and preparation.

I'm still hurting quite a lot, though it's better than last week. I am trying to remember to take my supplements - a multi-vit., D, calcium, magnesium and fish oil. The magnesium and fish oil specifically should help with the pain I'm having, at least I hope so...the rest will be hard work on my part. It's tough and I'm finding the temptation to just give up very tempting because the work-outs are so painful right now.

So it's the beginning of a new week of teaching, practicing, card making and painful work-outs not to mention cooking, cleaning and laundry...

  1. More snow! I'm not jumping for joy either. We're at the bottom edge of this next front coming through, so they're not predicting much for us... maybe an inch. But this is getting old. I love that picture. It fits the surroundings. lol
When they pull surprises on you like that for the hymn singing, they shouldn't expect perfection. As you've told me, most people probably won't even notice a wrong note. Don't fret. You are very good and a great teacher. I can't thank you enough for what you're doing for me.
That's great people are snatching up your cards. Keeps you busy, but for a good cause. Thank you for answering my question about the insides. The only ones I make are to send to a family member and of course I hunt up a poem or something special for them, and paste it inside.
As for the journey to better health, I'd be happy to join you. Motivation and encouragement are always needed. Maybe we can do that for each other. I'm hoping to get in some kind of work-out today, plus a lot of practicing. I hope my afternoon is long enough. :)

    1. Sounds like our days will be much the same today, Carol! I too hope my afternoon is long enough! Let's make a pact to encourage each other in our journey to good health - I find someone to encourage and be accountable to helps in many areas of my life and this is one of them!

  2. We got a few inches of snow last night. It's sad that if we get anything less than 7 inches it isn't really that big of deal to us anymore. It's becoming a way of life..LOL. Can order some of your Thank You cards?

  3. Well, no snow in Florida, and we are back up into the 80s now. I'm sorry you are hurting so bad. The weather is probably part of the problem, so I hope you temps are rising now, too. It will take a long time for those drifts and piles to melt though. I remember...

We are hardest on ourselves when it comes to performing - whether it is an instrument, singing, making a speech or just doing a job. Your church is lucky to have you, Julie. I've heard you play on the videos you shared, and I know how good you are.

Nice that your cards are selling and that you are donating the proceeds to the organ fund. Your cards are beautiful!!

Stay safe and take care of you, dear friend. Love & hugs.

  4. Love the photo! I am a little more than tired of snow! It has been such a long winter, and cold too so it never melted. We are getting rain on Friday so that should take it down some.

Like you, my son is not the best sight reader; he had a good memory and his pieces were always memorized too quickly so his sight reading skills suffered.
