This weekend I brought out my family history scrapbook and tied up some loose ends on my great-great grandmother, thus completing her pages and moved on to her daughter. I completed 20 scrapbook pages, mostly of typed out history as I have so few photos from that time. I also spent Sunday afternoon and evening typing up all the information I have on my great-grandmother and will now locate all the photos I have of her and set to work on her section of the album. Thank God for my cousin who has supplied me with some wonderful stories that she remembers from her childhood! I plan to write her today and let her know how I'm progressing. I'm going to work on those members I know and have pictures for, then I'm going to bite the bullet and subscribe to ancestry.com and see if I can find out more.
I love working on my family album, but I must say, I do find myself missing my mother so much as I "spend time" with each of the family members that she knew and loved so much. I found myself so homesick for her and family that I dissolved into tears at one point yesterday. I long to see and hug those who share my blood lines, to feel a connection to someone...a sense of belonging.
Plans for today include catching up on some housework, going to the bank and the scrapbook store, writing my cousin, making a loaf of bread and salmon patties for supper; Hubby and Suki both need me to cut their hair. My one student for today has rescheduled for tomorrow, making Tuesday a very busy day. I'm looking forward to seeing the second part of the anxiety filled season finale of Castle tonight!
Two verses that touched my heart from God's Word this morning:
Joshua 22:5
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
5 Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and hold fast to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Joshua 24:15
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
15 If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Prayers continue for my two children currently without jobs.

How awesome that you were able to work on your family history scrapbook and actually got to complete your great-great grandmothers pages. I would love to do something like this.
ReplyDeleteI got a good chuckle out of your daughter's boyfriend. His enthusiasm for your cookies must have made you happy! What kind were they?
Continued prayers that you children will find jobs:-) Have a great week, Julie!
Thanks Kris, you have a great week too! The cookies were a modified version of the Toll House chocolate chip recipe. I add raisins and oatmeal and I also don't use refined sugar...I use sucanat instead of white and brown.
DeleteIt sounds like you enjoy, and can get lost in, your family history....that is great! You also are now a hit the boyfriend! lol Have a good Monday and also week ahead.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. I do enjoy getting lost in my family history. I guess I get the love for that from my mother.
DeleteI love the colors in your background. Beautiful. I have a table here in my home office that has a pile of family research papers too. And I get to feeling the same way. When I "spend time" with these family members, I get to wishing that I could share each bit of info with Mom. She would love to see what I have. I can only work on it a short time then I need to walk away and give myself a break. I have a subscription to ancestry and for me, I've gotten my money's worth of info. I hope you will too.
ReplyDeleteWe have a wooden wall hanging that has that verse on it... "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." I read it often.
Your daughter's sweetheart sounds like a very polite (or very reserved) young man. I have 3 son-in-laws that we that way in the beginning. Now they know how to make themselves at home. I'm glad they do.
Hope you're having a good day.
Thank you Carol, I felt I needed a little bit of "spring".
DeleteIt's nice that you understand what I mean about missing my mom when I get so involved in the family project.
Daughter's sweetheart is both very polite and very reserved, we like him very much and they are good together.
Julie, I love Ancestry.com. It has been so easy to progress on my family history. Worth every penny! It is a worthy pass-time, and one that future generations will appreciate! How cute that your cookies were such a hit with your daughter's boyfriend. Great story!! Wishing you good luck on your busy Tuesday!! Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice you are working on a scrapbook. I so much need to start something like that with so many photos here some from way back before my time. My sister does a great job on scapbooking. I wish she lived closer.
ReplyDeletea homemade cookie would be great right now!
Ha, your cookies must've been real good then, it's nice to see someone wanting more especially if he is not even that keen on sweet.
