Numbering Our Days

Psalm 90: 12, 17
12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us - yes, establish the work of our hands.

My plans were changed yesterday. After getting a very painful massage, I decided it best that I stay home from my practice time and "rest" and flush my system with fluids - something I don't do well when away from home because my bladder isn't as young as it once was. My massage therapist says the pain I experience when she's working on me reminds her of her Fibromyalgia patients. I have often wondered if I have that, but I have looked it up and I really don't think I do. However, I do have something going on. I was feeling bad about canceling my practice time when my mentor called and told me that the organ was going to be otherwise occupied by the recitalist that will be performing there tonight, so it all worked out. I don't know yet if I'm attending the recital, I want to go, but there is a $20.00 ticket to consider and I gave all my money to my massage therapist yesterday. We'll see what comes in from teaching today.

Anyway, Daughter #2 came shortly after I cancelled my practice time. It was good that it all worked out as I was able to spend time with her. I have learned - and I was reminded again - that as much as I love my practice time, I must spend time with family when I have the chance. She and I went outside and washed our cars, inside and out...hmmm, so much for "rest".

About ten years ago or so, I joined a yahoo group called Baptist Mamas. It's a group of women who attend Baptist churches who come together to share in each others' live and pray for one another. There are several women on there who I have known since day one and I have become good friends with. I learned yesterday that one of them has been diagnosed with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gherig's disease. If you don't know anything about that horrible disease, you can look it up. My brother-in-law died from it - it is always fatal. Amy will leave a husband and three adopted children (one with mental health issues) behind. She knows the Lord though and has that blessed assurance of eternal life with Him in Heaven. She is talking of all she is wanting to accomplish while she still can. I thought of what plans I would make under the same circumstances and decided I hope I don't have to consider it for a long time, yet it is good to number our days and live with the thought that we truly do not know how much time we have.

Plans for today include general cleaning and chores, laundry, wash the living room windows, stretch and do some yoga to help get this pain under control and teach students at 11, 1, 3:15 and 4:30. I also need to lay out a plan for a trip into town tomorrow. I will have Suki with me as she has to have her check-up at the vet and and the weather will be warm so I have to plan things out well so I don't have her in a hot car for very long at a time.

Whatever you put your hand to today I pray your time will be well spent. Have a wonderful day!!

  1. My middle daughter was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when she was in her 20's and was treated for it. Now she is in her 40's and she says she doesnt think she really had it either. Hard to diagnose sometimes. Sure hope you begin to feel better soon or at least find out what is going on and get the right treatment. I miss a lot of things I used to do and find on yahoo.

  3. We had a very close friend that died from ALS. It was so sad to see him waste away. He was always so big and strong. He was also a pastor and married our #1 daughter and her husband. I still miss him.
Has your massage therapist gotten rougher with you. A massage is suppose to be relaxing. My daughter always asks me... "am I hurting you?" If any of it hurts, she lessens up and changes her technique on that area. I'm praying there's nothing wrong.
Sounds like you'll have another busy day. I'm glad I'm part of your plans. lol
    Talk to you later. ♥

  4. Joe was diagnosed with fibro, too, but when he stopped drinking diet sodas, all his pain went away. It must be very difficult to diagnose properly.

I'm sorry to learn about your friend's ALS. You are so right about our days being numbered, and none of us know what tomorrow will bring. Live each day to the fullest and let those you love know it. So true.

Hope you got all your work done and can rest some tomorrow!

  5. I actually posted a comment about this post a few days ago but when I went to post it, it said I wasn't logged in! I don't like that our comments are not saved while we sign in. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. That is so sad. I'm also saying praying that you don't have fibro and that you get some pain relief soon. My friend was diagnosed with Fibro and her diet truly makes a difference when it comes to pain management.
